UNDER CONSTRUCTION 2 – Quartier des arts NoHo

Next up at The Road Theater Company is “Under Construction 2,” live and in-person play readings from October 22-30.

What UNDER CONSTRUCTION 2 could you ask for?

Continuing the success of Under Construction 1, Carlyle King, Jessica Broutt, and Mackenna Goodrich set out to find playwrights for Under Construction 2021 (UC2). The pandemic came with a positive side: instead of watching only local playwrights, their virtual sessions allowed UC2 to go national!

Their mission was to find diverse and dynamic voices committed to working in groups on the development of new works from the ground up; to arrive with an idea and a desire to refine their voice with actors and directors, all committed to the same objective of creating a play. With over 200 submissions from across the country, The Road Theater Company is excited to bring you the playwrights of UC2.

The Road Theater Company is “Under Construction 2”, playing live and in-person play from October 22-30.

“UNDER CONSTRUCTION 2 parts are just that… still“ under construction ”. It is the result of the playwright’s year-long commitment to write a play. These readings are the next step in their development and we hope you can join us!

“BISEXUAL Sadness”

Playwright India Kotis
Directed by Carlyle King

“BISEXUAL SADNESS” is about what it sounds like. Faye marries a man, and although she really really loves him, she wishes he was a woman. She’s not a locked up lesbian. She’s just sad that she has to fight harder to be a part of the queer communities she has always been home to. “BISEXUAL SADNESS” is about the specific loneliness of a bisexual woman in love with a man, while looking at the barrel a lifetime of feeling it. It takes the meme of “Sad Bisexual” and treats it with curiosity and respect to question questions of belonging, identity, cultural migrations and kinship. This begs the question, “Why do so many people seem to find bisexual women so irritating?” and challenges you, the audience, to respond.
