The Capital Region Arts Center calls for entries for the annual fencing show – troyrecord

TROY, NY – The Capital Region Center for the Arts will host the annual Fence Show for its members starting September 23. The Fence Show is an annual celebration that pays homage to a time when members’ artwork was displayed on the iron fence surrounding Washington Park. in Troy, the original location of the Arts Center. The theme for this year’s Fence Show is “Art is Essential”.

Anyone who is an active member of the Arts Center can submit works of art to the exhibition. Memberships must be valid until December 10. New and renewed memberships must be postmarked or received by September 3. , drawings, photography, fiber arts, stained glass and sculpture; non-traditional media and electronic arts are welcome. All works of art must be for sale.

The Fence Show includes two exhibitions: Fence Salon and Fence Select. Fence Salon (Sep 23 – Oct 30) displays members’ artwork from floor to ceiling, showcasing as many artwork as can fit in our main gallery. From this collection, 50 to 75 pieces will be chosen by a juror to remain on display for Fence Select (from November 19 to December 11). This year’s juror is Dan Cameron, a New York-based curator, writer and educator. Cameron was born in Utica, NY and holds a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Bennington College.

The ACCR will host an artists reception and awards ceremony on October 14 at 6 p.m. Cash prizes will be awarded for the best of the show and the runner-up; the winner of the Best in Show will also receive an individual exhibition at the Center des Arts. A second reception for Fence Select will take place on December 2 at 6 p.m.

New to this year’s exhibition, ACCR is inviting the work of Fence students to our Foyer Gallery in November and December during the Fence Select exhibition. Kindergarten to Grade 12 students are welcome to participate in the show either as part of their school or as individuals with a valid student membership. Schools are allowed to register up to five student work for an entrance fee of $ 50 per school.
