This year’s edition of the Missouri Western State University Vacation Art Sale will be the last, as some programs are phased out on campus.

The art sale features many clay objects, with the proceeds going directly to the artists. The sale, which started Tuesday and runs through Friday, takes place at the Potter Hall Gallery on campus from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The students of the art department participate in the management of the sale.

MWSU spokesperson Kent Heier said while not all Bachelor of Fine Arts programs are phased out, the Studio Art major will not be available once current students in the program complete. their studies.

Fine arts graduate Olivia Greer said the sale has gone pretty well so far, with strong activity on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. She said it’s really sad that this art sale is the last.

“Because we’ve been doing this for about four years, and it’s kind of like an annual thing,” she said. “And so, it’s bittersweet. I mean, it’s not the best environment to be in right now because everything stops. But at least it’s kind of like our last hurray, I guess.

Dayne Harman, a fine arts student, said the pottery on sale was made by students of various classes, especially ceramics. He said it was important to keep the prices reasonable but not to undervalue the items.

Referring to the fact that this was the last art sale, Harman said “it is what it is”.

“It’s sad to see this happening… because it won’t for the next few students to come,” Harman said. “But for us, we graduated.”

After completing her senior year, Greer said she wanted to continue learning and making ceramics, hopefully in graduate school.

“In the end, it would be really great to have my own studio space and mine, like a showcase and gallery space,” she said. “It’s a bit of a dream.”

Like Greer, Harman is looking to use his degree to work full-time in a ceramic studio or to find a job in graphic design.
