Indie folk virtuoso Kyle Field has done what he does best, quietly creating small batches of heartfelt homemade art. Following the release of his last official record, 2019’s People, Field has now teamed up with Greg Olin of Graves to launch a multimedia project called Mushroom. Ultimately a book, each edition of Mushroom includes a 12 inch hardcover book with a colorful vinyl LP containing the accompanying soundtrack, which features âField and Olin take turns reading the poems to original music and atmospheric soundsâ. 45-day limited presale because the book started last week, 10/22, and will end in early December, 5/12, after which it will no longer be available for purchase. So far, around a third of the 500 units have been claimed, so there is still plenty of time to give a very unique gift to loved ones.
A little more on Mushroom extract from a press release:
” Mushroom presents a group of unforgettable eccentrics. Inside you’ll meet little Tammy Moppins, stumble upon sleeping Gilda Mibbs, discover poor Edward Shandy Huppin-Cuffs, and, of course, discover Ponce de Leon. Try âhermit soupâ or âliver teaâ. Discover a mysterious artifact from long ago called “The Gong Show”. Next to each poem is an original color work of art by Kyle Field, which brings out the vivid reverie of each rhyme. These vibrant compositions are reminiscent of the work of acclaimed children’s book artist Brian Wildsmith, pushing the reader down the rabbit hole in an upside down world of their own creation. The book springs from Olin’s desire to recreate that classic childhood reading experience for his own daughter, and this collaboration with Field is a charming detour into the life of the little things. “
If you’ve ever had the greatest pleasure of seeing or receiving some of Field’s original artwork, you know he takes the same care with his designs as the songs from Little Wings.
