Digital art exhibit showcases work by Abbotsford teacher
Shannon Thiesen of ASIA North Poplar is a former BC Art Battle winner
The Abbotsford Arts Council and the Kariton Art Gallery present a new digital exhibition featuring the work of Shannon Thiesen from August 7 to 28.
To celebrate the opening of the show, entitled Floating en Plein Air, an event called Paint Mill Lake! will take place on Sunday August 8 at Mill Lake Park.
Artists and amateurs of all levels are welcome. Participants are invited to pick up a canvas from the Kariton Gallery (2387 Ware Street) between 9:30 a.m. and 10 a.m., find their favorite spot in the park and paint.
The finished pieces can then be dropped off at the gallery before 2 p.m. for display from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Entrants are entered to win one of two $ 25 gift cards for House of Fine Art (HOFA) art supplies.
Registrations are welcome, but canvases are limited. The cost of the event is per donation, and seats can be reserved by following the links under “events and programs” at abbotsfordartscouncil.com.

Thiesen is a grade 5 teacher and visual arts specialist at the Abbotsford School of Integrated Arts (North Poplar).
Live painting competitions saw Thiesen represent British Columbia at the 2016 and 2017 Art Battle Canada National Championships in Toronto.
She is also the recipient of the 2016 Young Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of the Fraser Valley and the 2016 Abbotsford Arty Award recipient in Visual Arts.
