SOLANA BEACH, Calif .– Some of Dr. Seuss’ most iconic works of art are back in San Diego County for the public to enjoy again.
The collection is located inside the Cedros Design District Exclusive Collections Gallery in Solana Beach. It contains original renderings, illustrations and previously unseen paintings.
âThis is the largest collection of Dr Seuss artwork in the world,â said Ruth Ann Thorn, owner of the EC Gallery.
Original pieces that can be seen at the gallery include âThe Cat in the Hatâ, âHorton Hears A Who!â, âGreen Eggs and Hamâ and âHow The Grinch Stole Christmasâ.
The gallery has a collection of paintings available year round, but the unique work consists of paintings by Dr Seuss that have never been seen before.
âA lot of people don’t know Theodore Geisel was a painter,â Thorn said of the famous La Jolla children’s book author. âAnd so he created things like that at night just for his own enjoyment. He was very fond of painting. He never really showed it to the public.
Thorn added that when he passed away his wife was kind enough to present his paintings to the public, “so we got to see how creative he was.”
âIt’s really special to see, I think, one of the most important American artists,â Thorn said. âHe has really touched us all for generations. “
Thorn says they must have waited a very long time for the collection to be made available to them as this is the third year they have had it. She also hopes to see the work again next year.
The the collection will be available until December 31st free, with readings of the book Dr. Seuss every Sunday from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
