A new charity shop with recycled DIY items and art supplies is set to open this weekend in Banbury town center

A new charity shop that recycles DIY items and art supplies opens in Banbury tomorrow – Saturday 2 October.

Orinoco’s grand opening, the Oxfordshire Scrapstore, will be by City Mayor Shaida Hussain at 10am. Orinoco Womble will be there to help.

Orinoco is an independent charity that collects unwanted, good quality commercial and household items from businesses and households.

A spokesperson for the charity shop said: “We are opening a waste recycling shop in Banbury this weekend that gives artists and craftspeople access to affordable materials that would otherwise be dumped by companies from local manufacturing.

“Our mission is to reduce waste in Oxfordshire by using creativity to inspire material reuse through our Scrapstore in Banbury, events and networking.”

Articles become valuable resources for children’s art and school projects as well as for creative endeavors for adults.

“We encourage reuse through education and hands-on action. We run three programs – the Scrapstore, Small Electrical Appliance Repair, and Outreach by organizing junkyard games at public events.

“Volunteers are essential to our work. We have volunteers at all levels – fixing electrical appliances, collecting and sorting donations, serving in the junkyard, and leading outreach projects. Inquiries about volunteering with us are always welcome.

Jim Smith, a volunteer electrical items repairer, said: “This is a great way to keep small electrical appliances from going to landfill and at the same time give them new life by selling them at high prices. very reasonable. ”
