2019 digital art falsely shared as Cyclone Shaheen video

A video accompanied by a Publish is widely shared on social media, claiming the images depict Hurricane Shaheen off the coast of Oman. The publication even claims that the video was photographed from Burj Khalifa in Dubai. Let’s check the facts of the claim made in the mail.

Made: The video is a digital art creation by an artist named Brent Shavnore. In 2019, the same video went viral with the claim that it was Hurricane Dorian; Shavnore then confirmed to AP that this was his creation. Shaheen was a tropical cyclone that made landfall on the northern coast of Oman on October 3, 2021. The cyclone caused heavy rains and winds of up to 150 km / h, killing at least 13 people after hitting parts from Oman and Iran. Therefore, the claim made by post is FALSE

When reverse image search is performed on the screenshots of the video with relevant keywords, the same video was found on Instagram. The Instagram video was posted on May 20, 2019 by a user named Brent Shavnore who describes himself in his bio as an “artist”. By browsing the profile by Brent Shavnore shows that he creates these types of images and posts them quite frequently online. A similar picture was job earlier in her Instagram profile on April 12, 2019.

The same video went viral earlier when it was shared as Hurricane Dorian seen moving to Florida in 2019. The Associated press contacted Brent Shavnore when they wrote a fact check in 2019 about a similar claim. Shavnore confirmed that he created the visual.
